ANC Wins Mayoral Election in Mogale City

The ANC narrowly beat the DA to win back the mayoral seat in Mogale City after a marathon council meeting on Wednesday. Patrick Lipudi‚ the former council speaker‚ was voted in as mayor with 39 votes to former mayor Michael Holenstein’s 36. Two votes were spoiled.

One member of the coalition government would have voted for Lipudi with the ANC to secure the result. Holenstein was removed in a motion of no confidence earlier this month following months of political turmoil in the municipality.

Wayde van Niekerk Sets New World Record

Wayde van Niekerk is the world’s best in yet another athletics event! The Olympic champion in the 400m set a new world record in the little-run 300m at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The IAAF will officially regard it as a “world’s best”, as the 300m is a seldom-run event. But nevertheless, Van Niekerk still broke Michael Johnson’s previous mark of 30.85, set in Pretoria in 2000, by running 30.81 on Wednesday night!

Petrol price set to drop in July

According to the Automobile Association (AA), fuel prices are set for across-the-board drops at the end of the month. The energy department is expected to publish the expected changes by the end of the week.
